ABSTRACT ARTIST // DESIGNER
ST. LOUIS, MO, USA
Emily Kay Rice is a local abstract artist from St. Louis. Her collection of work is multifaceted, ranging from a variety of mediums, with a primary focus of acrylics. Since 2015, Emily has had the privilege of presenting solo exhibitions at The St. Louis Renaissance Airport Hotel, Missouri Baptist University, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions across the St. Louis area.
Emily has been exploring the capabilities of mixed media fluid art, following a life altering accident. Her therapeutic process involves taking the uncovered emotions surrounding trauma, and giving them a visual abstract representation. Unlike the traditional methods of acrylic pour, using a can of spray paint allows her to add each chosen color directionally across the canvas and, when mixed with various acrylics, a memory comes to to visual life rather quickly. Emily desires to express some of the dimensional capabilities of spray paint as a medium in its own right, aside from its traditional street art reputation, exploring the pull and push between the artist’s level of control and the paint’s own intrinsic qualities.
Her own artistic style carries throughout her work, as Emily continues to work professionally in a variety of trades among the fine arts in areas such as theatrical set design and illustration. Accompanied by a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theatre from Missouri Baptist University, Emily served as a Visual and Performing Arts Educator at Visitation Academy of St. Louis years 2018 and 2019. Emily is also credited in the areas of graphic design, street art, and children’s book illustration. You can see some of her published illustrative works in children’s book series “Family By Love : A Story of Open Adoption” by Kaycee Parker.
